Polar Express Day Tomorrow

Sure my kids are in fourth grade... And maybe they have read the Polar Express before, but they can hardly wait to do it again tomorrow.  Our Polar Express unit is bangin as my kids in the class say.  We tied in non-fiction about Christmas songs, sequenced the story, did a cause and effect activity, and even threw in a poem!!! They are ecstatic... Plus it was nice to be able to encourage them to work hard with this movie. I have to say for the first time ever I have not had to push them SO hard to get their station work done. It was very refreshing. So hopefully tomorrow will go as planned... Vocabulary, spelling, and math test followed by the movie, hot chocolate and cookies!!! It should be a swell day!!! So hopefully I will have time to share this unit with you as soon as I get my Teachers Pay Teachers product put together and finalized. Well until next time!!!

Ohhh... PS... Can't wait for Grinch week next week!!! BEST... WEEK... EVER...

My Newest Hot Item

Well, my husband's surprise got ruined. As we got home last night from picking up our Christmas tree, there was a large box sitting on our porch. I had groceries in my hand and all I could hear my husband saying was that's too big to be mine. Well, I decided to check and see if they had delivered to the wrong address. That's not uncommon since our lane has 3 addresses on it. So I bent down to check the name... Sure enough it was my husband's name and right underneath it in large capital letters it said: HEAT PRESS... Say what!!! You mean to tell me I struggled yesterday with my hot iron pressing heat transfer vinyl onto shirts for hours... Well, that didn't bother me for long...

He was a little bummed to say the least, but I think the smile on my face cheered him up considerably. We opened the box and took it into my new craft/design room!!! I immediately ran to my closet to find a shirt we could heat something to. I sat down on the laptop, turned on the Cricut and before I knew it there was a silver glitter design ready to put on my purple shirt!

We plugged it in... And waited... It took around 5 minutes for the machine to heat up to a toasty 325 degrees, but just as it did..... Everything went BLACK... Tripped the breaker.... So we flipped it again, I unplugged the extra items in the room, and we were back in business. As it hit 325 degrees I put the shirt on the platen lined up my design and got ready for our trial run.. I was slightly nervous, but excited to see what this bad boy could do!!! I closed the clam shell and waited for the 15 seconds to expire... (would have taken me at least 5-8 minutes to do this with my iron) The timer clicked and I opened the handle, took off the Teflon sheet, peeled off the hot peel, and there she was!!! My new and improved shirt!!! So excited can't wait to share more!

The vine monogrammed font can be purchased on Etsy from DigiFile. It was great and very very easy to use on Cricut.

WELCOME TO MY BLOG

Well, here I am... In blog world... Sitting on the computer trying to think of a way to sum me up in just a few paragraphs.... And to be honest it is really really tough... So I am going to break it into categories!

HOME LIFE: My favorite part of life. I am married to the most wonderful husband in the world. We have almost been married for 9 years and for a 28 year old woman... I don't think that is too bad. He is my best friend and a day without him seems like an eternity. We have been trying to have a child for almost 3 years, but that is another post on a different day. But overall to sum that up, INFERTILITY SUCKS! But we have realized over these 3 years that as long as we have each other we can conquer anything! We have 3 beautiful animals. Missy, a mixed breed dog, Dexter an American Bulldog and Hound mix, and Teddy a Russian Blue cat. We live in the middle of no where and that is the way we like it. Fun and relaxing at the same time.

WORKING WOMAN: That's right... I work... Did I mention that I work??? Yes that's right I work and boy it feels like I am always working.  I am a fourth grade teacher. I love teaching, dislike some of the regulations placed upon teachers, and love my children to death. They make it all worth it. These kids have some very interesting personalities and comments that I cannot wait to share with you... Of course their names will be changed to protect their dignity. I teach a transition class meant to help students who did not pass third grade transition to fourth grade and continue to grow in a progressive manner. I come up with a lot of my own units and activities that I do in my classroom.  I do have a TPT store titled It Takes Two Teachers, where I share some of my activities. I also work in an after school program Monday through Thursday where I assist children with homework. Teaching is tough, but definitely a rewarding profession.

HOLLY'S JOLLIES: My husband laughed at this... But I don't care... These are the things that I do when I'm not working or cleaning or sleeping... I love to work with Cricut. I have a Cricut Expression bought for me in 2010 when I graduated from college. I use that thing and use it and use it and USE IT! I mainly cut adhesive and heat transfer vinyl. I love making and designing shirts for friends and family and for myself!!! I just finished a buttercream cake decorating class and am excited to use my newly learned skills at my home and parties. I love my SHE SHED!!! Yes I am on the SHE SHED band wagon and though mine is not finished I still love working on it and decorating it. My husband and I built it by hand, I put up the walls on the inside, painted, and have been working on decorating it for months... Such a costly and time consuming experience, but I am sure it will be worth it in the long run. I am addicted to Pinterest... Sad but true... Find me on Pinterest by searching my username hpatrick1024. I also enjoy hot baths on Friday nights with my DVR and the latest episode of American Horror Story... Addicted... But most of all... I feel like I stay busy, get little sleep, and live my life to the fullest.

So that's me... Holly... Come along with me as I share my life with you, my fun times, my hard times with infertility, the fun times with family, my pets, and my Cricut, and my life in general... In closing let me share something my husband picked out for me... And too bad for him I just heard our town is getting a HOBBY LOBBY!!!!!
